By Delta Connection Academy
Delta Connection Academy (DCA) announced today it has now become a Cirrus
Training Center (CTC). This designation allows DCA to provide training to Cirrus owners that has not been available in other Cirrus Training Center locations. Utilizing the aircraft and an FAA certified Level 6 Flight Training Device DCA can provide training that is not available anywhere else in the world.
In addition to traditional CTC programs pilots will now have the opportunity to take advantage of advanced training including parachute deployment, Caribbean, mountain and Alaskan flying.
“We are very pleased to offer Cirrus owners this advanced training. At DCA we are fortunate to have the capabilities to teach at any level,” said Paul Woessner, Senior Vice President of Delta Connection Academy.
Delta Connection Academy is the largest owner of Cirrus aircraft worldwide with 33 SR20s in their fleet. DCA has operated the Cirrus fleet since 2007 and has logged nearly 90,000 hours overall. In addition to the aircraft DCA also operates four Level 6 SR20 Flight Training Devices. These devices were designed by Aerosim Technologies and allow the user to explore full operation of the aircraft in a safe and structured environment.
DCA is among the leading aviation schools and has trained students from 90 different countries and placed pilots with more than 50 airlines. The Academy is a fast track program with a focus on sending graduates to the airlines. Every aspect of the program has been structured to emulate the airline training. Delta Connection Academy is the only flight school that participates in ASAP (Aviation Safety Action Program) which is a voluntary reporting of safety issues in partnership with the FAA.

Delta Connection Academy sponsors Air Race Classic pilots
www.generalaviationnews.com/
Delta Connection Academy in Sanford, Florida, is sponsoring two female pilots for the 2010 Air Race Classic, which took off June 22 and goes until June 25. Leah Hetzel, 20, and Sarah Morris, 21, both Jacksonville University aviation students, were selected to fly in the event; the academy has provided them with a Cirrus SR-20 for the historic race.
“We are thrilled to sponsor these two dynamic students and participate in the Air Race Classic. We are always working to advance student’s careers and experience,” said Paul Woessner. “Celebrating the 100th anniversary of Licensed Women Pilots is a privilege for Delta Connection Academy.”
Women’s air racing started in 1929 with the First Women’s Air Derby. Twenty pilots raced from Santa Monica, Calif., to Cleveland, Ohio, site of the National Air Races. Racing continued through the ‘30’s and was renewed again after World War II when the All Women’s Transcontinental Air Race, better known as the Powder Puff Derby, came into being. The race held its 30th, final and commemorative flight in 1977. The Air Race Classic, Ltd. then stepped in to continue the tradition of transcontinental speed competition for women pilots and staged its premier race. The Air Race Classic was reincorporated in 2002 into the Air Race Classic, Inc., a non-profit 501(c)3 organization.
“We are very excited about the opportunity to compete in the Air Race,” said Hetzel. “We are so grateful to Delta Connection Academy for helping to sponsor us.” “It truly is an amazing opportunity to be able to compete in the Air Race,” added Morris. “Words cannot express how honored I was to be selected by Delta Connection academy to fly the Cirrus that they are providing us.”
Delta Connection Academy is part of the Flight Training Acquisitions Group, which also includes Aerosim Technologies and AeroElite Training Services. It operates a fleet of more than 96 technically advanced aircraft and training devices, including its fleet of 33 new Cirrus SR-20 G2 and its Level 3 Advanced Aviation Training Devices. The Academy has trained students from 90 different countries and has placed pilots with more than 30 airlines worldwide.

By Delta Connection Academy
A group of forty-one students from the Civil Aviation Flight University of China (CAFUC) will be arriving at Delta Connection Academy’s Orlando/Sanford International Airport Campus in May and June. An Additional eleven students are coming from Shandong Airlines. The students will train at Delta Connection Academy for eleven months and then will return to China to fly large commercial aircraft such as the B737 and A320 for various Chinese airlines, including Shandong Airlines.
China sends many of its future pilots to train in the United States due to its open airspace and the opportunity for students to learn and work in the English language. The English language immersion is extremely valuable as it is the mandatory language of the International Civil Aviation Organization (ICAO).
“We are honored to have been selected by so many International programs to help in the final stages of their pilot training,” said Paul Woessner, Senior Vice President of Delta Connection Academy. “At Delta Connection Academy we have students from all around the world and we work hard to help the students achieve excellence in pilot training and safety as well as provide a positive life experience for them.”
Delta Connection Academy operates a fleet of more than 96 technically aircraft and training devices, including 33 new Cirrus SR-20 G2 aircraft, FAA Level 6 Flight Simulation Training Devices and Advanced Aviation Training Devices. The Academy has trained students from 90 different countries and has placed pilots with more than 30 airlines including; Xiamen, China Eastern, Shandong, Shen Feng, China Air and Cathay Pacific.

Air Astana acquires Enhanced Virtual Procedures Trainer from Aerosim Technologies
“The idea of developing our own training centre for the airline was a result of the shortage of qualified training and the lack of modern training systems available for pilots in Kazakhstan which would meet international standards. At the same time, Air Astana has stringent requirements for pilots and safety is the main priority for our carrier. To become an Air Astana pilot, you must have a valid certificate provided by the civil aviation of the RK or the International Civil Aviation Organization (ICAO), a certain number of flying hours, ability to operate on international flights, high professional and personal qualities and knowledge of English in accordance with ICAO level 4. That’s why Air Astana invests heavily in training and retraining of pilots, both experienced and new pilots,”
commented Tom Nichols, Vice President Air Astana Flight Operations.
Air Astana is a full member of the Air Transport Association (IATA) and the only airline in Kazakhstan certified to perform aircraft maintenance on European standards EASA/Part 145

Spirit of Freedom Shares Ramp Space At DCA
April 28, 2009
The Berlin Airlift Historical Foundation gave Delta Connection Academy (DCA) flight training students a new appreciation of just how far technology has come in such a short time.
Arriving on Monday, April 27 for a personalized tour, DCA students watched the grace and elegance of a fully restored Douglas C-54E land and taxi onto the DCA flightline. Named "SPIRIT OF FREEDOM", the aircraft is painted to represent the 48th Troop Carrier Squadron, one of the many groups which carried out the Berlin Airlift in the 1940's.
Inside, the "Spirit" is a genuine museum dedicated to the Airlift, filled with artifacts, displays, and information. DCA organizers worked with the Foundation to give students not only a history lesson on the Airlift, but also an appreciation for advancements in the aviation industry. DCA will provide ramp space free of charge for the next two weeks while the aircraft waits for the next event to display a bit of history to aviation fans.

Jacksonville Apprentice Becomes A&P Mechanic

From Tire Mechanic to Aircraft Mechanic Thanks To A Tool Man And Flight Schools Apprentice Program
JACKSONVILLE, Fla., April 7, 2009 –
At age 18, Barack Davis was rather handy with a wrench and a floor jack. Working at a Jacksonville tire repair shop, he was expected to have some knowledge and interest in mechanics. But it wasn’t his tire changing ability that landed Davis an interview with Delta Connection Academy’s (DCA) Airframe and Powerplant Mechanics (A&P) apprentice program, rather someone who came to know his work ethic and determination by simply visiting the tire shop every week.
Davis was recommended to the DCA apprentice program by the same Snap-On tool man that made deliveries to the Jacksonville DCA hanger. In conversation, Davis’s name came up as someone who was determined and would appreciate the opportunity to learn a lifelong skill.
DCA Director of Aircraft Maintenance Thomas Bruno took the tool-mans advice and gave Davis a call to discuses the program. "We were looking for someone who could commit to two years of training and had a desire to work on aircraft. We found that in Davis and brought him into the program in July 2006."
But, Davis was a gamble. While he had the desire to work on aircraft, he was the first ever apprentice to have absolutely no prior exposure to aircraft. "Most of the students in the program have at least gotten their hands dirty thanks to an airplane engine. For Davis, he was unique in that his greasy hands were courtesy of tires not props" said Bruno.
Under the A&P apprentice program, students like Davis are placed on the DCA payroll and work in concert with other DCA mechanics as they keep the training aircraft current with all the required maintenance and safety checks.
In March 2009, Davis completed his training and certifications now working full time as an A&P Mechanic for Delta Connection Academy’s Jacksonville training facility. According to AVJobs.com, A&P Mechanics make anywhere from $12-hr to $25-hr depending on geographical location.
Davis is one of only twenty selected students for the A&P apprentice program since it’s beginning in 2004. The apprentice program is hosted at three out of the four DCA training facilities which includes the main campus in Sanford, Florida in addition to Houston, Texas and Jacksonville, Florida. The apprentice program is scheduled to begin recruitment again in winter 2009.

Tropical Storm Fay Tests Delta Connection Academy's Preparedness Plan
SANFORD, Fla. August 26, 2008 - - There is always one thing you can count on; Mother Nature is rarely predictable. As Tropical Storm Fay made her curve towards Florida, more than 350 miles inland Delta Connection Academy was preparing personnel and aircraft to weather whatever Fay had to offer.
Initially forecasted to come ashore around Tampa Bay, Fay decided to make an abrupt turn to the east coming in just south of Naples and making a direct beeline straight for central Florida.
"In the case of Fay, the decision was made quickly not to evacuate and focus on protecting the fleet" said John O'Brien, Chief Operating Officer for Delta Connection Academy. "In my nine years with the Academy, we have gone through this about eight times, evacuated three times, and never had an injury. Our emergency plan works well."
The Academy relocated approximately 60 aircraft inside four hangers, two of which were volunteered by the Orlando/Sanford International Airport. More than 250 students and CFI's were sent home and did not fly for five days as Fay stalled off the coast of Titusville, roughly 30 miles east of Sanford.
"Our first priority is safety of our students" said O'Brien. "With such an unpredictable storm we did not want to take any chances. As the famous saying goes- I would rather be on the ground wishing I was in the air rather than in the air wishing I was on the ground."
Hurricane season runs through November 1 and forecasters once again predict an active season.
